Do you love checking out the latest food scene in Providence? Then you should head over to the new Pinelli's Restaurant & Bar in Providence.
I had a great time there yesterday shooting (and yes, tasting!) some of their dishes. Here's a peak at their Scallops & Pillows (Seared sea scallops, butternut squash, dried cranberries, brown butter sauce over butternut squash raviolis) and fresh Caprese Salad (Vine ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil-infused oil and aged balsamic vinegar).
My 4 year-old daughter dug into a helping of pasta and meatballs too.
This shoot brought back memories from my days at Boston College. Although my degree is in Photography, I haven’t focused on food photos in 10 years.
There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to get that perfect shot. My wife who attended the shoot admitted, “I didn't realize shooting food was that much work.”
There are many self-proclaimed food photographers on Instagram whose entire feed is JUST food - they make it look easy. You would think shooting food is easy because it doesn’t talk back to you; it just sits there.  But, shooting food photography with an iPhone is the equivalent to drag racing with a mountain bike. Sure, you can do it, but you won't get the same results. To get each shot involves special lighting and lenses as well as an understanding of composition. There is a real science behind it.
By the way, Pinelli's really is amazing! Great food and a great crew of people there to enjoy it with.
