Newlyweds Piper and Tyler were married a few weeks ago at St. Joseph's Church in Newport, Rhode Island.   The bride, groom, guests all felt familiar to me - and it should! Just over a year ago, I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Piper’s good friend Nicole. You can see Nicole's blog post HERE. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces in the crowd.

It was a beautiful crisp, autumn day. The type of perfect fall day you would read about in a Robert Frost poem. The sun was out and the clouds were sparse. Again to say it was a perfect day was an understatement.  I remember walking through the door to see Piper as she was getting her hair done. She had the look of joy and happiness written all over her face. She had found her prince charming and they were going to become one.

St. Joseph's Church is a beautiful church with a long center aisle for a bride to make her way to her future husband. Of course, one of my favorite parts of the ceremony was watching Tyler lower his head and seeing the tears flow as his future wife began to walk down the aisle.  His bride was here. Every step she took towards him was one step closer Piper was to being his wife and Tyler her husband.

After the ceremony, we headed to the wedding venue. Believe it or not it was at a private residence -  Piper’s house. Now this wasn't just a house with a yard. It was a beautiful home that her father had built featuring a meticulous yard. It was the perfect scene for a fall wedding reception in New England.  The upbeat reception took place under a luxury wedding tent. GQ and The Lady kept the outdoor dance floor full all night.

Piper’s lovely next door neighbor happened to have an amazing well-groomed property that was just perfect for formal photos. The golden hour had just set in and I was able to capture some breathtaking shots.

Some people think that a wedding venue, reception and photos should take take place at a traditional “wedding venue.” It doesn’t have to! It’s YOUR wedding! YOUR day. Anywhere you want to celebrate your love, your souls joining, IS the wedding reception. It can be in your backyard, like Piper, at a restaurant where you had your first date or any other special venue you can think of.
