My cousin Brian and his wife Allyson really wanted to start a family; they tried for years to have a baby. In fact, they were pregnant 2 times before but unfortunately they had a 2 miscarriages. What seemed like an amazing time in their life quickly turned into a devastating experience.
But, they didn’t give up. Even after suffering a gut-wrenching loss, Brian and Allyson still really wanted to start a family. And sure enough, one day God blessed them with a little girl. They are both so excited and ready for their new adventure as parents.
The other day Brian asked me to shoot maternity pictures for them. I said I would love to, but I don’t have that much experience shooting baby bumps. In all my years as a photographer, I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings but only two maternity sessions - one of which was of my wife, April. But he didn’t mind; they really wanted me to photograph them.
I drove them in the bitter cold this past Sunday to an abandoned house in Coventry. I love this location because of the tall grass surrounding it – it’s a great backdrop. When you shoot it just right, it looks like you’re in this big open field.
Although it was quick shoot due to the cold, we had such a good time. We made and captured some memories that day. Brian, thank you for making me step out of my comfort zone. I had such a wonderful time photographing my family and I’m so honored they trusted me to capture this life moment for them.
Brian and Allyson, I’m thrilled you are going to be parents. God had given you an unbelievable gift with Baby K in the way. Cherish her daily. Brian, if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this: Love your daughter in such a way that when she gets married she will know exactly what it means to be loved and respected by a truly godly man.
